The term somatics is derived from the Latin word soma, meaning "the living body." Somatics is an approach to experience that accesses the wisdom of our body and the subtle conversation of our subconscious in order to support deeper healing, the kind that happens from the inside out, ultimately allowing us to return to our innate sense of wholeness.
We have all experienced some form of trauma in our lives, and that trauma can stay with us long after the threat has passed. It can lodge itself into our felt experience and embed itself into our bodies and minds. These past traumas cause instability in the autonomic nervous system, leaving it stuck in a state of unnecessary tension, arousal, or shutdown.
Over 6 weeks, we will take a closer look at trauma through the somatic lens, diving into how it literally reshapes both body and brain, and how the ancient wisdom of yoga can be used therapeutically to support healing. Throughout, we will focus on opportunities to explore our own inner landscapes, using that as a touchpoint for our educational journey and integrating unique self-care practices along the way.
