Kama
This word is so classic and traditional, isn’t it? Kama: desire, longing, passion, pleasure of the senses. And, in contemporary literature, Kama often refers to sexual desire and longing however, the concept more broadly refers to any desire, wish, passion, longing, pleasure of the senses, simple enjoyment of life, affection, or love, with or without sexual connotations.
It’s true that in order to “achieve” liberation from this human life and all our samskaras, we must balance Artha, Kama, and Dharma. Meaning, in my language, balance pleasure with purpose and know your path.
Which can get tricky can’t it? To begin with, there’s so many distractions right? And not only that, we can get so deep into our “work” that we forget that the magic is born in the pleasure and the pause.
As a Western society especially, we are driven, ambitious, and assertive and we have the tendency to push and push while we forget that our connection to God is really where creation and inspiration happens.
This is such a beautiful concept when it comes to intimate relationships as well. I wish someone had explained this to me when I was younger; although I may not have listened to be honest.
The idea that passion, sexual attraction, and intimacy, when felt and expressed authentically and in alignment with respect and offering to the Divine, makes perfect sense to me now.
But what if there is no partner? Then what? What if it is true that we are living in a holographic Universe and that everyone we experience is a Divine reflection of who we are? And if that’s true, and we desire to attract that Divine partner, that Sacred Union, wouldn’t the truth be that we need to first be that for ourselves?
Wouldn’t that mean that we need to be free from our own personal samskaras, triggers, and old paradigms in order to truly see the Divine Union within ourselves first?
A truth where we must live this idea in our own lives? A passionate existence … a life that is truly in alignment with who we are? A life that means we live our own passion, our own purpose, and follow our own path according to Divine order? Without having to push, or struggle but instead align and flow?
Wouldn’t that offer us liberation from any type of longing whatsoever? Because we would know, on a cellular level, that all we need, we have within ourselves already? And that “sacred union” we are looking for truly exists once we ignite that flame within ourselves?
Obviously, I’ve been thinking about … well, feeling into rather, this idea for quite some time. It really is as simple as:
Love thyself.
God’s will not Thy will.
Enjoy life.
So I ask you .. .
What are you passionate about? Who ignites that spark? Who blows it out? What can you do to create more of that spark in your life, for yourself?
Once you know that, the Divinity and intimate connection will come. Literally.
